Founded by patients, for patients
PatientsCann UK CIC was built from the ground up by people who have lived the experience — the confusion, the stigma, the gaps in information. We exist because every patient deserves clear, honest, and free guidance about their prescription rights.
We are recognised by national healthcare bodies, award-winning in patient advocacy, and entirely driven by the community we serve. The work is voluntary. The mission is permanent.
Patient-Centric by Design
Every resource, guide, and campaign begins with patient feedback. We run regular surveys, community discussions on Discord, and live events to ensure our work reflects real patient needs.
Evidence-Based Information
We work alongside healthcare providers, policymakers, and research bodies. Our educational content is grounded in science, not opinion — and reviewed regularly as guidance evolves.
Active Policy Advocacy
We campaign for better NHS access, fairer prescribing, and improved patient protections. Our voices have reached policymakers and resulted in meaningful change.

Common Questions
Answers when you need them
The most important things to know about medical cannabis in the UK — answered plainly.
Is cannabis legal on prescription in the UK?
Yes. Cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs) have been legal on prescription since 1 November 2018. Only GMC-registered specialist doctors may prescribe them — both via the NHS and private clinics.
How do I become a medical cannabis patient?
You need a qualifying condition that can be treated with medical cannabis. Speak to your GP or refer yourself to a specialist clinic. Eligibility criteria vary between providers — if one clinic can't accept you, another may. Start your journey here.
Can I get medical cannabis on the NHS?
Technically yes, but NHS prescribing remains extremely limited. The majority of UK patients currently access medical cannabis through licensed private clinics, where costs have reduced significantly in recent years.
Is medical cannabis expensive?
Private treatment was historically costly, but consultation and medication fees have fallen considerably. Subsidised schemes now exist for eligible patients. We maintain an up-to-date overview of what to expect financially.
Can I take my prescription abroad?
Yes! Some countries allow you to travel with your medical cannabis, and some airlines may also permit it. Always check current rules before you travel. See our country-by-country guide.
Can I use my prescription in public?
The Equality Act 2010 protects your right to take medication when needed. Service providers must make reasonable adjustments. We list approved venues and consumption lounges across the UK.
Will my prescription affect my job?
Employees have rights to consume medication that improves their health. Some employers may raise concerns, but the Equality Act protects you. Find out your rights as an employee.
What if I'm unhappy with a provider?
You have options. Our reporting guide walks you through how to raise concerns about a product or service, escalate formally, and protect your rights as a patient. Follow our reporting guide.
